NCBBA sponsors three beach cleanup operations a year, one in the spring, summer, and fall. Operation Beach Respect is our signature event(s) of the year. In working with the Cape Hatteras Park Service, we exhibit our ongoing commitment to protect the environment of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area for everyone to enjoy. During the cleanup operations, the NCBBA volunteer members are present at each open beach access from Ramp 2 to 55. They will hand-out a packet of information including a trash bag to each beach goer vehicle and ask that they police the area they are using for the day. When they come off the beach, they will leave their trash bag at the end of the ramp for the CHPS to collect the trash bags and litter.

In addition to the beach cleanup, NCBBA participates in the North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway program. The NCBBA has the responsibility to clean both sides of Highway 12 from south of the Marc Basnight Bridge to ½ mile north of the Ramp 2 entrance, a 2-1/2 mile stretch of highway. For safety reasons this is an adult only event. The A-A-H events are scheduled the same mornings of OBR and an additional Saturday in November.

The support received from NCBBA members for both programs is appreciated by your elected Officers and Board members. Each event only requires two hours of your time on a Saturday morning. Participation is also a great way to meet new people and establish a sense of fellowship among the members. The dates for beach cleanups are displayed on our Calendar of Events.

The Director in charge is Tom Brueckner.
